Overcoming the Fears and Myths of Colonics

by Kelly McCoy

The first question that probably runs through almost everyone’s mind when they hear the word “Colonic” is, ‘does it hurt?’ In all honesty I would have to say that a Colonic can be very relaxing. It is actually a very gentle and soothing process. There is no scary equipment, only warm flowing water and a comforting hand to rub your belly. It’s starting to sound pretty good right? Now we can begin talking about the deep benefits.

I would have to say that in one way or another, everybody has some issue with their back-side. And while we walk around trying to cover our behind, we wish we could find a safe haven to just let things out.

Looking back on the years of practice, I’ve seen that we all get stuck in some way at some time or another. A Colonic gives the opportunity to relieve some of the pressures we hold up inside and let things move again. Water is a tremendous solvent, just look at the Grand Canyon. This is a powerful way to refresh our bodies.

I think the general populace is beginning to discover that the nature of our contemporary American ways and nutrition are a bit on the deficient side when it comes to our true bodily needs. Sadly, it takes us humans awhile to realize the effects of our choices and usually we find ourselves dead-ended with some sort of pain or crisis situation. It need not be so dramatic when it comes to taking care of our selves. The body is pretty straight forward and gives signs… “I’m tired” “I’m thirsty” “I’m hungry” “I have to go to the bathroom”. Some days we’re good listeners and other days we just don’t have the time or desire to meet all those demands! Not to worry, the body is very forgiving and enjoys nothing better than a nice clearing to empty out all the excess.

Everyone has their own symptoms connected to “getting stuck.” The body responds with constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, fatigue, gas, headaches, skin problem and depression. Well who could feel good if they didn’t take the garbage out everyday? A Colonic brings you into a deeper awareness of your body and what is going on inside.

Once the feelings of congestion have been experienced, the feeling of release and movement is well received and becomes the goal to maintain. Like a garden, the colon is a place where life thrives. There is constant action to keep the environment rich in nutrients and free from an overgrowth of bad bacteria.
